“Like many people in the club, I first heard about the Steeplechasers from Mark Lawrence at the start line for a 5K. While I had been into exercising for years, mainly it was classes at the gym. I never did any running until I started the Couch to 5K program in preparation for my school’s 5K. The race was small, but I managed to win first female. I decided to check out the Steeplechasers and joined at the end of 2014.
Since joining the Steeplechasers, I have participated in several training programs. I completed my first half marathon in 2015 and first marathon in 2016. I was so inspired by the wonderful coaches who led the groups, I decided to become an RRCA Level I Certified Running Coach.
During my time as a coach, I coached the Women’s 5K Training Program, as well as the Spring Half Marathon Training Program, and Marathon Training Program. I have enjoyed getting to meet members of the club and help them work towards reaching their goal. Whether it was finishing their first race or getting a PR. As I got to meet new members, I saw their dedication and commitment to the training programs and encouraged them to become coaches. Although some might say I talked them into it. This allowed me to focus on other areas of the club.
While I don’t like wearing hats, I sure do wear a lot of hats in the running club. I was a coach for several years, as well as the chair of the Social Committee, co-chair of the Training Committee, as well as the Steeps Secretary. This allowed me to use my organizational skills and still kept me connected to the training programs. I was elected FSRC President in 2021.
When I am not running, which seems like it’s all I have been doing since COVID-19 started, I am a Montessori Primary teacher and work at a Montessori Teacher Training Center.
Since most races have been cancelled, I have been participating in virtual races and events. I completed the Yeti Ultra 24-Hour Challenge, the Virtual 50K Pub Run, as well as other virtual races. I also enjoy volunteering at races and was happy to volunteer at the 2020 COVID CAT 50K and Half CAT. I am looking forward to the return of races and other social events, so I can get to see my running friends and meet new members.”
