The Frederick Steeplechasers’ Spires Youth Running Program have just wrapped up their spring track and field season. The Spires, under the coaching guidance of Trevor James, Tim Stevenson, Matt Gorman, Lou Hamilton and Melissa Elliotte, practiced a few times per week at Baker Park and Frederick High School track beginning in March. The program has 46 youth runners aged 7-14. This season the Spires expanded to practice field events, including the shot put, long jump, and high jump. Athletes competed in multiple youth track meets on the weekend in various locations of Frederick, Carroll, and Howard Counties. They also had fun doing special practices including a parking deck run in downtown Frederick, a fountain run along Carroll Creek, a joint practice with the Lukas Village Youth Track program (coach Josh Henson), and a run up to the Lincoln Elementary school to use their track.

The Spires youth program will start up again for cross country season the last week of August. You can register for and learn more about the program by visiting this link. And you can follow the Spires on Facebook here.
